New Music Minute featuring Ray Davies & Mike Doughty

RAY DAVIES Ray Davies is the legendary musician and Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame member (founder, singer, songwriter of The Kinks), His latest solo recording features 12 new songs written by Davies, and co-produced with Grammy Award winning producer/engineer Ray Kennedy. Recorded in Nashville, and mixed in London, Working Man's Cafe is Davies' second solo album following his solo debut in May 2006. Davies focuses on the plight of the worker, the every day man around the world. It is Davies' "American record" describing the changes he's seen in this country since he first started visiting in the '60s. In a recent Mojo Magazine review Davies is described as having a "tourist's blend of enchantment and bafflement" when writing about the United States. MIKE DOUGHTY Mike Doughty's father was in the U.S. Army and Doughty was schooled on Army bases in the United States and Europe. "I was too sensitive, too questioning. When I found music, it changed everything" says Doughty. He played bass in a high school band and started writing songs. By the time he entered the New School in New York City to study poetry, he'd developed his syncopated guitar style. Mike Doughty's new recording, Golden Delicious, is a freewheeling set. Its most political song is "Fort Hood" the Texas Army base that has lost the most troops in the Iraq War." "I visited some of the wounded troops at Walter Reed Hospital in D.C. and wondered what was going through their minds. When I first sang the chorus 'Let the Sunshine In" (from Hair) I felt myself tearing up" says Doughty.
